“You shall remember the Lord your God, for it is He who gives you power to get wealth.”
As entrepreneurs and professionals, we often chase wealth through sheer grit; however, the scripture above is more than a reminder, but it’s a blueprint for how God empowers people to prosper. Let’s break it down:

- Who you are in business is very important. Wealth begins with understanding who you are and the mindset you carry. Embracing an entrepreneurial mindset is highly essential. Such individuals succeed because they dare, they dream, and they take disciplined actions. Don’t just be a worker; be a creator with a wealth mentality. A millionaire’s attitude is resilient and often focused on value. Shift from a scarcity mentality to one of abundance, rooted in faith. God empowers people, not their excuses.
- Remember God as the Source. This keeps you grounded. He is the Source, the Owner and the One who enables you. Wealth isn’t yours to hoard selfishly; it’s stewardship. We must maintain humility toward possessions, recognising God as the ultimate owner. This attitude fosters gratitude and disallow being overtaken by worldliness. When our attitude towards money aligns with God’s heart, we recognise that resources are tools and not trophies. This also gives us a better understanding of how stewardship is more important than ownership.
- It’s God’s willingness to empower. God equips individuals, not by handling them money, but by giving them the power, the capacity, the spiritual insight, knowledge, and skills to produce wealth. This means the journey to wealth is not about waiting for divine drops of money. It’s not magic, but in being practical and recognising the divine enablement. It is God’s willingness that releases opportunities and guides your decisions.
- Wealth is a gift. There is nothing we have that we have not been given. Who we are and whatever we have are gifts from God. Wealth is a gift from God, but the power to produce it requires planning, discipline, learning and taking the necessary actions.
- It takes power to get wealth. Praying for money doesn’t bring wealth; rather, seek spiritual power and learn to engage in knowledge. Many pray for money and do nothing, yet the bible shows that God does not give money. Instead, He gives power; spiritual power, mental power, the power of ideas and knowledge to produce results. Power is the ability to work! This makes profits follow wise planning, revelation and divine direction.
- The covenant of blessing. As heirs to Abraham’s promise (Genesis 12:2; Galatians 3:14,29), you qualify for prosperity as outlined in Deuteronomy 28:1-8. It’s God’s covenant that establishes your inheritance. Believers stand under the same Abrahamic covenant and are blessed to succeed. However, this comes with the responsibility of obedience.

Wealth acquired through unfair means or get-rich-quick schemes won’t last. Proverbs 13:11 reminds us that riches gained unjustly or through vain pursuits will dwindle away, but those who gather wealth gradually, through hard work and diligence, will see their riches increase. Consider these five paths to wealth:
- Stealing – a shortcut that leads to loss
- Begging – a humbling path to nowhere
- Borrowing – a temporary fix with long-term consequences
- Inheritance – a windfall that can be both a blessing and a curse
- Earning – the reliable route to lasting wealth
Which path will you choose? Wealth is a journey and not an overnight miracle.
“Wealth gotten by vanity shall be diminished: but he that gathereth by labour shall increase” (Proverbs 13:11, KJV).
Many dream of becoming wealthy quickly, but the bible warns that riches gained in haste will diminish. True wealth grows “little by little” through consistent sowing, intelligent work, ambition, and the courage to take responsibility for your financial life. Your harvest will always reflect your seeds, which are your efforts, discipline, and decisions. Your harvest depends on what you sow.
“Be not decieved, God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap.” (Galatians 6:7)
“And that ye study to be quite, and to do your own business, and to work with your own hands, as we command you; that ye may walk honestly toward them that are without and that ye may have lack of nothing” (1 Thess. 4:11,12)
Make it your ambition to mind your own business and to work with your hands so you will not depend on anyone for a living. How ambitious are you about starting your own business and working with your own hands? Salaries sustain life, but business creates wealth. Every person who desires financial freedom must understand the journey from dependence to employment, to self-employment, to business ownership, and ultimately to investment. Each level increases your capacity to grow, multiply, and build.
“The plans of the diligent lead to profit, as surely as haste leads to poverty” (Proverbs 21:5)
“Thus saith the Lord, thy Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel; I am the Lord thy God which teacheth thee to profit, which leads thee the way that thou should go” (Isaiah 47:17)

These scriptures give a roadmap to profit in business. Again, we see that God does not give profit; it’s planning, revelation and direction that leads to profit.
In conclusion, starting a business requires the right motives. It cannot be driven by frustration, ambition for titles, the desire for quick wealth, or even the illusion of a brilliant idea alone. Business success demands character, competence, resilience, capital, and the humility to learn. It demands the ability to serve people, lead teams, create value, and solve problems consistently. Without these, even the brightest ideas fail.
A strong business is built on a foundation of talent, knowledge, experience, and genuine interest. These qualities, when refined and intentionally packaged, become services, products, and solutions. That is where income begins. Ideas flourish when they solve real problems, offer better experiences, or provide value in more meaningful ways.
